1. Who we are
QuizCheese is a small, independent quiz site based in Denmark. It's operated by FireFunGames.com, who acts as the data controller for everything on this site.

2. What we actually collect
Spoiler: not much.
- Contact form: your topic, message, and email address (if you choose to share it).
- Newsletter: your email address, confirmation status, consent and unsubscribe timestamps, and delivery status. We never add you until you confirm through the email we send.
- Privacy-friendly analytics: aggregated page usage data via Vercel Web Analytics. No individual tracking, no fingerprinting.
- Browser storage: your theme preference (localStorage), quiz progress and a random daily quiz-session token (sessionStorage), and one cookie to remember you already saw the pop quiz. Yes, just the one.
- Quiz popularity: when you finish a quiz, we record the quiz, time, and random session token so refreshing the page does not inflate the count. We do not store your answers or result.
- Abuse prevention: short-lived, one-way hashes derived from request IP addresses help protect quiz counts, the contact form, and newsletter confirmation emails from automated abuse. We do not store the raw IP addresses in our databases.
No accounts needed. No data sold. No sneaky stuff. Ever.
3. Why we use it (the legal bit)
GDPR says we need a legal reason for everything we do with data. Honestly? Fair enough. Here are ours.
- Running the site and keeping things smooth — remembering your theme, keeping your quiz progress, knowing you already saw the cookie notice — that's all basic site functionality: legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)).
- Replying to your messagesfrom the contact form: legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)).
- Sending newsletter updatesto people who asked for them: consent (Art. 6(1)(a)).
- Measuring traffic in aggregated formso we know which quizzes people actually enjoy: legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)).
- Counting completed quizzes and preventing fake counts: legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)).
Everything you share is voluntary. Though if you send a blank contact form… we'll do our best to reply to the void.
4. Who else sees your data
These are the services that help run QuizCheese.
- Vercel— hosts the site and runs our privacy-friendly analytics.
- Neon— stores newsletter subscriptions and delivery records in Frankfurt, Germany.
- Turso— stores quizzes and anonymous quiz-completion events in Ireland.
- Amazon Web Services— sends confirmation and weekly newsletter emails through Amazon SES in Frankfurt, Germany.
- Cloudflare— stores and serves quiz images from R2 in the European Union and provides DNS and security services.
- Resend— delivers contact-form emails on our behalf.
- Apple (iCloud Mail)— hosts the inbox where those messages land.
No ad networks. No data brokers. No mysterious third parties lurking in the shadows.
5. Where your data might travel
Some of our processors may handle data outside the EEA (including the United States). Where required, transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses and/or equivalent mechanisms.
Translation: there are legal agreements making sure your data stays protected, even when it crosses borders.
6. How long we keep things
We're not data hoarders. Here's the rundown.
- Contact messages: only as long as we need to sort out your request, then poof.
- Unconfirmed newsletter signups: deleted after 30 days. Confirmation links expire after 48 hours.
- Confirmed newsletter records: kept while you are subscribed. Unsubscribe and suppression records are kept so we can prove your choice and avoid emailing you again, unless you ask us to delete them.
- Raw quiz-completion events: kept for up to 90 days. Daily aggregate counts contain no session tokens and may be kept longer to understand quiz popularity.
- Short-lived abuse-prevention hashes: expire after an hour and are removed during weekly maintenance.
- Browser storage and the cookie: entirely in your hands. Clear them whenever you want.
- Analytics: retained by Vercel per their configured retention settings.
7. Your rights (the good part)
GDPR gives you real power over your data. We're fans of that. Here's what you can do: access (see what we have), rectification (fix it), erasure (delete it), restriction (limit how we use it), objection (say no), and portability (take it with you). If processing is based on consent, you can withdraw that consent at any time.
Just email quiz@firefungames.com and we'll sort it out within a month.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. In Denmark, that's Datatilsynet.
Datatilsynet complaint page
8. Robots making decisions about you
None. Zero. Zip. We don't use automated decision-making or profiling with legal or similarly significant effects. Your quiz results are calculated in your own browser and never stored by us — only an anonymous completion event is counted.
9. What might change
We might add minimal ads someday to keep the lights on and the quizzes free. If we do, we'll update this page and give you a heads-up. The mission: stay as non-annoying as humanly possible.
If non-essential cookies or ad tech ever enter the picture, we'll add proper consent controls. No surprise tracking. Pinky promise.
